Darryl Dawkins was the first player to be drafted to the NBA straight out of high school. He was the 5th pick in the first round of the 1975 NBA Draft. Dawkins gained fame for his powerful dunks, which often shattered backboards. He became the first player to break a backboard in an NBA game in 1979, and he repeated the feat a year later. These notable dunks earned him a reputation as a dunking innovator and entertainer. Dawkins’ style of play and larger-than-life personality left a lasting impact on the sport. He brought excitement and flair to the court, helping popularize the art of dunking and influencing future generations of players. Dawkins enjoyed a lengthy professional career, playing in the NBA for 14 seasons with 2 NBA Finals Appearances. He played for the Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, Utah Jazz, and Detroit Pistons during his tenure in the league.
